I am repotting a few compact succulents and trying to avoid keeping too much wet soil under the roots. For small rosettes, do you usually choose a shallower pot, or is standard depth fine if the mix drains quickly?

I will choose a shallow flower pot because a shallow pot allows sunlight to reach the soil, preventing excessive moisture from accumulating and causing it to become too damp. Also, make sure to loosen the soil.
